How We Review Products
Last updated: October 3, 2026
This page explains, in plain terms, how ItemFlare researches products and writes its buying guides.
Our reviews are based on research. We do not test products in a lab or use them ourselves. Before you buy, check the Amazon product page and recent customer reviews.
In short
- Research-based: we read specifications, customer reviews and expert reviews.
- No brand pays us to change a rating or a ranking.
- Articles are rechecked and updated over time.
Our process in 6 steps
-
1
Choose the topic and the products worth covering
We start with the questions home shoppers ask and the products people commonly search for and buy.
-
2
Collect information
We gather manufacturer specifications, customer reviews on Amazon and independent expert reviews.
-
3
Check and cross-verify
We compare the sources against each other and look for problems that show up again and again.
-
4
Compare products against the same criteria
Every product in a guide is judged on the same list of points, so the comparison stays fair.
-
5
Write clearly, including weaknesses
Each product gets its strong points and its drawbacks, written in simple language.
-
6
Update and correct over time
Products, prices and reviews change. We recheck articles and fix errors when we find them.
Where our information comes from
- Manufacturer websites, product pages and user manuals
- Customer reviews on Amazon.com, with extra attention to verified purchases
- Independent expert reviews published by other trusted websites and magazines
- Retailer listings for details such as size, power, warranty and what is included
What we look at
The exact points depend on the product type, but most guides cover these. We judge them from specifications, buyer feedback and expert reviews, not from using the products ourselves:
- Performance
- Build quality and durability
- Ease of use
- Cleaning and upkeep
- Safety features
- Value for money
- Warranty and support
- Common complaints
How we read customer reviews
Customer reviews tell us how a product holds up in real homes. We read them for patterns, not for the average star rating alone. A specific problem mentioned by many buyers matters more than one angry review or one glowing review.
Some reviews are not reliable, so we are careful with signs like these:
- Many reviews posted in a short time with very similar wording
- Praise that is vague and gives no detail about the product
- Reviews that mention a free product or a different item
- Ratings that do not match what the written review says
How we choose "best" products
When we call a product the best, we mean it did well on the points above for a particular kind of buyer, and that its price makes sense for what it offers. A product can suit one household and be a poor fit for another.
Every "best" pick is explained in its own article, so you can see the reason and decide if it fits your needs.
What we do not do
- We do not test products in a lab.
- We do not use the products ourselves.
- We do not accept payment from brands to change a rating or a ranking.
- We cannot promise that the price or stock on Amazon matches what we saw when we wrote the article.
Independence and affiliate links
Some links on this site may be affiliate links. If you buy through them, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you.
This never changes the price you pay, and it does not decide which products we recommend.
You can read the details in our Affiliate Disclosure.
Updates and corrections
We recheck our articles from time to time, and update them when products, prices or reviews change.
If you find an error or something that is out of date, please email admin@itemflare.com or use our contact page. We will check it and correct it.
